The Power of Strategy

The right strategies are what makes a business, or person a success or failure.

The correct strategy will almost always guarantee success, where as the wrong strategy will waste time, energy, and resources. The challenge is to have the resources, and ability to create the correct strategy, or select a proven strategy from a similar situation.

In this new age of everyone wanting everything NOW, and not willing to, "pay the price" of waiting, hard work, and dedication as it was, "back in the day". Creative strategies have become very important, and are far less draining emotionally, and physically.

These new creative, intelligent, customized strategies that most of us are not aware of can be changed, and adapted to fit most any situation to ensure success in business, or personal endeavors.

Strategizing is a skill that when mastered can benefit you forever in your career, business, and personal life.

It has been said that the strategy is the HOW something gets done, whether you are doing the work, someone else is doing the work, or the strategy itself is doing the work.

Today when we speak of strategies, goals, plans, visions, etc. They all seem to run together, and no one understands what anyone is talking about.
I found this description of vision, mission, purpose, outcome, goal, plan, and strategy from the great Thomas Leonard, and I think it will make all of this easier to understand.

VISION: Vision is what is possible. A vision is what you see that others cannot see as well. It is about an improvement, a betterment, a sheer possibility.

MISSION: A mission is what you are all about, and what you are really doing.

PURPOSE: Your purpose is why you are doing what you are doing, why you have set a goal, why you are going for an outcome, what is motivating you.

OUTCOME: AN outcome is what occurs after you reach your objective, or goal. The outcome includes the results, but also the benefits of the results--both tangible, and intangible.

GOAL: A goal is the measurable result you are going for.

PLAN: A plan is what you develop in order to identify, organize, and schedule your time, resources, and energy. A plan consists of a list of resources needed, action steps to take, a timeline of events, and progress milestones.

STRATEGY: A strategy is how something get done, not just what you do. A strategy is your approach. It is your positioning, It is your smart way of reaching your goal with the least amount of wasted effort or cost. With a strategy, you are not always working on the goal itself, but rather on improving or positioning the environments, relationships, resources, flows, systems, or even yourself. So, strategies are very different from a plan. In fact when you devise the right strategy, the plan naturally become obvious. But without the strategy, the plan is merely a set of steps that quite often do not lead anywhere near the desired outcome.
